Divergent democracy: Notes on a mediatised affective activism renewal of feminist and anti-fascist struggle in contemporary Greece

While the shackles of austerity continue to shatter the remnants of once dignified, and now, mostly dehumanising lives, for most Greeks who have suffered decades long of economic and social crises, the rapid rise of the far right and its incipient racist and xenophobic discourse has had a profound impact on the country. This paper attempts a twofold objective: on the one hand to contribute to the global feminist dialogue by making visible and vocal the case of Greece, and, on the other to advance a plea for a current consciousness raising era in Greece as regards particularly contemporary youth who can transform instances of despair into action and social change by adopting feminist principles in their everyday lives. I draw on the representational politics of far-right fascist discourse and individual behaviour articulated and depicted in contemporary Greek films, and its gendered and xenophobic normalisers, to contextualise an interdisciplinary feminist analysis of such phenomena in contemporary Greece

Asymptotic scaling corrections in QCD with Wilson fermions from the 3-loop average plaquette

We calculate the 3-loop perturbative expansion of the average plaquette in lattice QCD with N_f massive Wilson fermions and gauge group SU(N). The corrections to asymptotic scaling in the corresponding energy scheme are also evaluated. Theorising affective habitus in historical geographies of mobilities: unfolding spatio-temporal modalities

This essay applies a case study approach to theorise a research agenda for critical explorations of emotions and mobilities centred on three core concepts and key phenomena: affective habitus, spatio-temporal modalities and historical geographies. The analysis offers novel perspectives on the interplay between the affectivity of geographies of social difference and the multiscalar dynamics shaping social relations through mobility. This is demonstrated in how emotions linked to agency provide a generative lens to explore how social relationships and political subjectivities intersect to inform mobile identities/lifeworlds. The case studies offer critical insights of how migrants/refugees/indigenous people in navigating challenging structural conditions can reflect conceptualisations of the mutually constitutive contexts of emotionality and intersectional inequity with indigeneity and (im)mobility. A temporal-historical lens reveals how emotional mobilities are shaped by structural/social dynamics including, but not limited to, trauma and exclusion, historical divisions, cultural identities, border and racialised regimes, intergenerationality. These exemplifications through a case study empirical lens draw from research focusing on indigenous and Palestinian peoples

The "Wretched of Europe": Greece and the cultural politics of inequality

Abstract: This paper focuses on narratives of the crisis in contemporary Greece and aims to understand the current context of austerity as a trope, symbolic signifier and construct of inequality beyond austerity and in its manifestation as new social morphology in Europe. While the future recovery of Greece will require an extensive understanding of both economic and historical narratives which have sustained and fueled the modern Greek state, a deeper analysis of structural and societal cultural codes mirrored in the public sphere is paramount in comprehending the cultural politics of inequalities in academic and public discourse. In a changing political and social environment, youth in Greece face the consequences of the debt crisis, and, at the same time, re-examine their identity, values and aspirations. Drawing from narrative, visual and ethnographic data, the paper explores stories of the crisis in grounding an account of inequality as narrated by those experiencing dispossession and austerity

Elicited Bid Functions in a (a)Symmetric First-Price Auctions

We report on a series of experiments that examine bidding behavior in first-price sealed bid auctions with symmetric and asymmetric bidders.To study the extent of strategic behavior, we use an experimental design that elicits bidders complete bid functions in each round (auction) of the experiment.In the aggregate, behavior is consistent with the basic equilibrium predictions for risk neutral or homogenous risk averse bidders (extent of bid shading, average seller s revenues and deviations from equilibrium).However, when we look at the extent of best reply behavior and the shape of bid functions, we find that individual behavior is not in line with the received equilibrium models, although it exhibits strategic sophistication.auctions;bidding;strategy;behavioural science;general equilibrium;risk
